Jinwei High-Speed Railway Project

Smoother, crack-resistant concretes with Ecocrete™ Cellulose Fiber

Bullet train at platform with reflective finished concrete surface

Challenges & Solution

Fast Pours, Wind, and Tight Tolerances — Under Control

Hot/windy placements: Cellulose micro-fibers form a distributed network that reduces plastic shrinkage and limits early micro-cracks on exposed decks and slabs.

Finish quality & edges: Better rheology and anti-segregation deliver cleaner arrises at joints, anchors, drains, and parapet edges with fewer touch-ups.

Pumping & compaction: Fibers promote mix stability, lowering bleed water and helping achieve consistent surface texture for slab track base layers.

Non-corrosive durability: Organic cellulose fibers will not rust and are compatible with supplementary cementitious materials commonly used on HSR works.

Tighter Crack Control, Cleaner Surfaces, Fewer Patch Repairs

Construction teams reported reduced plastic cracking, lower bleed, and uniform surface finish on exposed pours—especially parapets and platform toppings. The fiber-modified mixes helped cut down on cosmetic patching and rework, supporting on-schedule handover.

Project Overview

Shrinkage Control & Better Finish for Viaducts and Slab Track

On the Jinwei HSR corridor, long elevated sections, approach slabs, and station platforms demanded tight crack control and clean surface finish under fast construction cycles. The project adopted Ecocrete™ Cellulose Fiber in select mixes—particularly slab track base concrete, bridge decks/approach slabs, parapet and barrier cast-in-place, and grouts/renders—to reduce plastic-shrinkage cracking and improve rheology for finishing and edge detail. The fine cellulose network enhances cohesion, limits bleed/segregation, and supports durable surfaces for high-speed operation.
