Segment & lining crack control with Ecocrete™ Polyester Fiber
Early-age cracking control: Distributed polyester micro-reinforcement relieves tensile stress at crack tips to reduce plastic shrinkage and thermal micro-cracks in dense, low-w/c mixes.
Watertightness & joint edges: Added post-crack toughness supports clean arrises around gaskets and reduces edge raveling during transport and assembly.
Seawater environment: Polyester fibers are non-corrosive and feature low moisture uptake, supporting long service life versus steel micro-reinforcement.
Placement & finishing: Ecocrete™ PET fibers disperse quickly in drum or central-mix plants and are compatible with pump placement and segment-mold finishing when standard dispersion steps are followed.

Project teams observed tighter crack widths in heat-affected pours and consistent surface finish on segments and in-situ lining. Polyester fiber reinforcement supports leak-tight performance, reduces touch-up frequency, and helps maintain long-term durability in a chloride environment.
Durable Tunnel Concrete Under High Water Pressure
The Jiaozhou Bay Subsea Tunnel connects Qingdao across the bay with long stretches of immersed and bored tunnel exposed to continuous hydrostatic pressure and chloride-rich seawater. To limit plastic-shrinkage and early thermal cracking in segments, secondary lining, and shotcrete repairs, the mix incorporated Ecocrete™ Polyester Fiber (PET). The fine, 3D fiber network helps arrest micro-cracks at their origin, supporting watertightness, joint integrity, and long-term durability.
